Working Out Around and Injury
Coach’s corner: Josh Westphal
Injuries can be one of the most frustrating things for any athlete to deal with. Not letting injuries affect your attitude towards training is very important. Instead of looking at an injury as an excuse to be a couch potato and not train, why not use that recovery time to turn weaknesses into strengths and perfect certain skills? Great athletes don’t take the easy way out when they are healthy, so why do it when you have a small setback?
Nobody likes getting injured—It sucks, for sure. It’s ok to be disappointed or even a little sad, but do not let that negative attitude linger for long! Get back in the gym quickly and find ways to work around that injury.
· Hurt your wrist? Great, now you have time to get your legs really strong or work on running faster.
· Roll your ankle? Awesome, now you have more time to perfect strict pull ups or work towards your first muscle up.
A negative attitude will hurt you every time – if you let it. You always have to switch those thoughts to be positive and believe you are gonna come back stronger than ever. The little setback isn’t gonna stop you; it will just slow you down in one way while giving you a chance to get better in other ways.
